Fourth Grade Teacher, Curriculum Coordinator
BS, Elementary Education, Cum Laude, University of Tennessee, Chattanooga
Randi has spent the majority of her 17 years teaching at St. Peter’s. As an educator who is passionate about literacy, Randi strives to connect with students and grow passionate readers and writers. “My goal as a literacy teacher is to help my students develop a love for the written word that encourages them to become lifelong readers and writers. I remind our students that learning might be a challenge at times, but the challenge is also the time when a door opens to new and exciting adventures. I encourage them to dig deeper into their thinking to see how the books that they read and write connect with their own lives.”
Being a lifelong learner is something that Randi finds to be most important as an educator. She has extensive experience and training in literacy education. Randi has attended three Summer/Coaching Institutes at Columbia University for specific training in the Lucy Calkins reading and writing curriculum. She has also trained with educators in the Guided Reading program, which focuses on growing readers based on their individual reading needs. As Curriculum and Accreditation Coordinator, Randi has overseen the accreditation process over the last several accreditations conducted by the Southern Association of Independent Schools.
Randi’s passion for outdoor education has inspired her to take part in the Master Gardener certification, Tennessee Native Plant certification, and various certificates in outdoor learning experiences. “Our Trailwise program is one that I hold dear to my heart. Giving our students the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature inspires them to become good stewards of the Earth.” In her spare time, Randi is seen escaping into a great book, hiking on the trails at Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center, and spending time with her family. Randi’s son is an alumnus of St. Peter’s.
